ASUKA LANGLEY SOHRYU
No doubt the emotional powerhouse of the series and the 2nd children
assigned to evangelion unit 02. Asuka is her own.
Confident, suggestive, an outgoing personality, but also with also an
equally powerful temper. Asuka is a child prodigy (having recently completed
university), she has trained in Germany's NERV branch since her early selection in
her youth. Daughter of the tragically deceased German scientist, Kyouko Zepplin Sohyru
(mother), Asuka has grown up having to look out for herself, developing an unusually high
aggressive attitude.Asuka seems to easily make friends, quickly making good
friends with Misato and Hikari, and expressing her discomfort with Shinji's
attitude (although she sometimes does seem fairly keen on him).

Being 14 years old and a fairly typical teenage girl, she is often out with her friends (if she can't
convince Kaji to go instead). When she isnt she is usually back with Shinji,
althought usually keeping to herself reading magazines, watching TV and
generally lazing about. Being born in December 4th, with type O blood, she has had
a long standing experience with piloting the evangelion. Naturally her sync-ratio
is very high. Her life hasn't all been a party, with her mother falling into
mental breakdown in an accident during an experiment back in Germany,
(her mother later committed suicide, Asuka being the one who found her).
This seems to play through her head, as it is often what she dreams about.
Throughout the series, the events take Asuka from a confident and willing
young girl, to a broken hospitalised patient. With her Yuko Miyamura as her
seiyuu, she first appears in episode 8 Asuka Strikes! Asuka is continuously tested.
Upon her arrival in Japan, she moves in with Misato and Shinji, which seems to be
very difficult for her to do. Also Shinji's success with piloting the evangelion, and later on, a
mind rape from angel-15. She slowly loses her confidence as her ability to
pilot (her measure of self worth) begins to degrade, eventually ending her up
in a coma. In the movies, Asuka once again realises the her true power, and
with limited time and ability, rises to fight against the series of 9 evangelion.
Her will so powerful, that even after her eva was eaten, she still moved to
face them. Whether or not she really died as a result of this was never
really shown.
