GENDOU IKARI
The seeminly most powerful character in evangelion, Gendou is the commander of NERV
and ultimately responsible for everything it does. He is the husband is Yui Ikari, and
the father of Shinji Ikari (son). Generally silent and unmoved by the events around him
he can usually be found overseeing NERV, sitting behind his desk above the
the command and tactical stations. Being the commander of NERV, he is often
kept to a tight shedule, having little time to waste, and little patience
for trivial matters such as his son. Gendou takes the role of the driving force
behind NERV, pursuing his desires, and what needs to be done. Gendou, although
very well connected, doesnt seem to have a friend, apart from Fuyutski at times,
and apparently seems to be better at making enemies than friends.

Being 48 years old, Gendou has had a rather, interesing past. Being born on April 29th, with type
A blood, his original last name befoire taking on Ikari, was Rokobungi. He generally
lived a rough life, getting into fights quite often. Upon meeting Professor Fuyutski
at the university of Kyoto, he soon met his research assistant, Yui and fell for her.
Sometimes thereafter, he left for antarctica, with Dr. Katsuragi on the Katsuragi expedition,
only escaping a week before the seccond impact which wiped out antarctica. After wards he married
Yui, taking on her last name, and fathering his son, Shinji. A few years passed and
both became involved with Gerhin working very closely on the top secret E- project
(evangelion project). When Yui was killed, he lost what joy was left in his life,
becoming the cold person he is in the series.
Throughout the series, the events hardly change him. He seems to always be in
calm and in command. With Fumihiko Tachiki as his seiyuu, he first appears
in episode 1 Angel Attack!. Rei seems to become the person he cares most about,
and seems to always look out for her. He continues to use people, in any way he
can (having an affair with both Naoko and Ritsuko Akagi), to his ultimate goal.
He is always relentless and never lets anything, on earth or in heaven, stop him.
In the movies, his heart is revealed, only slightly, but long enough for you to know, that he loved
Yui more than anything, and the last thing he wanted to do, is to harm his son.
