KAORU NAGISA
The shortest appearing character in the series, he both appears in
and is killed in episode 24. He arrives in Neo Tokyo 3 from Seele as the
replacement pilot for unit 02, after Asuka's mental breakdown.
As to who he really is and where he comes from, no one really knows, not even
Misato was privied to the specifics (although she seems to suspect something).
He at first seems to be an average person, being very sensible and and getting
to know everyone that he meets. Apart from his, tendency to keep to himself,
his strange similarity to Rei, and his red eyes, he seems to be nothing out
of the ordinary. He is quiet a friendly person, even breaking the ice with Rei
with some unexpected success (as she becomes consumed with interest with him and who
he really is).

Being 14 years old and the fifth childeren , he naturally has experience with the evangelion
(and seems to have had that for quite some time). When he arrived, he quickly
developed a close friendship with Shinji Ikari, spending quite alot of time with
him (which may seem a little weird). Being born on September 13th, with blue pattern type blood
(a rare form, same as Rei), when tested for his syncronisation ratio,
he immediately impresses and scares the people at NERV, with his incerdible ability
to sync extremly well with an evangelion that is not even configured for him.
Misato and Ritsuko alike, begin to build thier suspicions as the episode progresses,
and it revealed that he can set his syncronisation ratio to any thing that he wishes
(although they were nver quite sure and therefore never acted upon this).
Throughout the episode that he appears, he seems to be quite a feeling person.
Being the only person in the whole series that understnads and accepts Shinji
for who he is, and never pressures him. With Akira Ishida as his seiyuu, he first
appears in episode 24 The Final Messanger. He also seems to know what Rei is really
about, even thou she herself does not know, and Kaoru never says much about it.
Later in the episode, it is confirmed that Kaoru is in fact the seventeenth angel,
Tabris, when he takes control of evangelion unit 02, externally (floating nearby).
He uses this to break into Central Dogma (battling Shinji in unit 01 all the way down).
He learns that what he was looking for, Adam, was never actually kept in Central Dogma,
it was in fact Lilith. Finally Shinji cathces up with him, and reluctantly kills his friend,
as the last of the angels, as Kaoru wished for it to be.
