REI AYANAMI
The mystery to the evangelion series, Rei Ayanami is right from the start a
very strange but touchy subject. She is the first children assigned to
evangelion unit 00. She lives her life alone in silence, forever
with a blank expression and blunt, using short to the point responses. Rei,
having no family, lives on her own. Her appartment reflects her personality,
being totally empty, being much more a cell than an appartment. Rei, is
almost always on her own, and does seem to want or need friends, or any
other form of social contact (although she seems curious about everything).

Being 14 years old, Rei is a rather extreme individual being submissive, obediant and gentle,
although she can be disobediant and violent when she needs to be. Born with the
rare blue pattern type blood, she seems to suffer from the genetic disorder of
Albinism (the albino appearance).She has very little self worth and would, without question,
sacrifice herself for the success of a mission. She spends most of her time on her own, doing
what is required of her. She is no stranger to pain, the subject of experimentation
and the target for violence from both angels and people.
Throughout the series, the events explore Rei for what she really is.
With Megumi Hayashibara as her seiyuu, she first appears in episode 1 Angel Attack!
Not being what she initially appeares to be, rei develops a personality
and she is more or less accpeted for who she is. She becomes her own
person and beings to do what is right, rather than what she is
ordered to do. In the movies, Rei seems to dissapear almost completely,
almost as if she knew what was coming. She takes refuge in the lowest
sanctum of nerv, with lilith and she seems drawn, to do what she is meant
to do, disregarding Gendou and joining with lilth. In the end she gave
the decision to shinji as to the fate of the world.
