YUI IKARI
The mother figure in the series, Yui plays a very small but vital role in
the evangelion series. She was the wife forGendou Ikari , and mother of Shinji Ikari (son).
She also was a scientist at the Technology Development at Gerhin (later NERV), working on the
e-project. Her death, in the early time line of the seires, meant that
her presence was limited to the episodes on that time period, and memories of
the characters that remembered her. She the sort of woman anynone would wish for a
mother. Smart, beautiful, loving, caring, and dedicated all describe her.
She seemed to have many friends and kept in regular contact with them,
its just a pity that she had to die so early on in the time period of the series.

Being 27 years old when she died,Yui beginnings are also unknown before her being in university.
Beginning off as a student of meta-biology in the faculty of science at kyoto university, she became
the research assistant for Professor (Kouzou) Fuyutsuki (he seemed to also have a crush on her). She
soon met Gendou Rokobungi, soon falling in love with him. Some time after this, Gendou had to go to
antarctica with the Katsuragi expedition, leaving her to fend for herself, only meeting up
with him days before seccond impact, both surviving the seccond impact unscathed.
After this they she joined Gehirn (later NERV) and became the mother of Shinji Ikari.
Commencing work on the e-project (evangelion project) she contined her success
and mothering of Shinji untill her trajic death in 2004.
Her character isnt developed in the series, and never was intended to.
She represents many things, and is important to many, part of the eva story.
With Megumi Hayashibara as her seiyuu, she first appears in episode 21 The Birth of NERV.
It is obvious, that she and Gendou both loved each other, and that Shinji was
their greatest achievement together. She is the reason why Shinji and Gendou
are, who they are, the reason why the evangelion exist in the first place.
She was the streangth and souce of love for Gendou and Shinji, and even in her death,
continues to protect them as the core for evangelion unit one.
