EVANGELION 02 - PRODUCTION MODEL
Evangelion Unit 01, or "Nigoki"
as it is known in the Japanese, it is
the production model of the evangelion.
Constructed in Germany from Japanese
parts, its pilot is Asuka Langley Sohryu,
and its core soul is Kyoko Zepplin Sohryu.
It first appears in episode 8 Asuka Strikes!
The first production model evangelion, Asuka describes unit 02 as the first designed for real battles.
The true nature is not as dangerous or unpredictable as its predecessors, being much more
under control of its pilot. Its violent appearance, is more the will of the pilot
than the evanlgeion itself (Asuka can become extremely violent and abrupt when piloting).
The unit never does anything out of its predictable character, never going pshychotic
like unit 00 did, nor going bezerk like unit 01 did. However there seems to be an underlying,
silent problem with this evangelion, casuing Asuka to have increacing difficulty in
piloting it. Its core soul and Asuka begin to shut themselves off from one another, eventually
sending Asuka into a downward mental spiral. The dominance of its core soul seems to dwindle,
Kaoru Nagisa describing it as not being dominant (hence he could control it).

Although this unit was constructed in Germany from components from Japan, and completed after units
00, and 01, its operational history is just as lengthy as as colourful as both of its predecessors. Asuka
seemed to have had quite alot of experience piloting this evangelion, syncing well with it. The unit
immediately showed the skill of its pilot, when it engaged and defeated Angel 6 Gaghiel. It continued to see
service in service of NERV, confronting the majority or Angels. Later on, Asuka seemed to develop problems
piloting this unit, which steadily degraded her sync ratio to a point where the the evangelion stopped
responding. Its pilot continued to degrade and was briefly replaced by Kaoru Nagisa, who immediately synced
better than Shinji with his evangelion, even before the personal data for Asuka was replaced for his own.
Soon after Kaoru, who by then was Angel 17 Tabris, externally took control of the evanlgeion, using it to
break into termal dogma (fighting Shinji in unit 01 the whole way). The unit was retrived, after Kaoru
abandoned it. It is only after this that Asuka learns that her mother was placed at the core of unit 02
after she committed suicide. Upon SEELE invading NERV, Asuka is placed inside the unit for protection.
Soon after this she once again rises, and faces the evangleion series, succedding to destroy all nine in
less than four minutes, although ultimatly getting destroyed.
