EVANGELION 01 - TESTTYPE MODEL
Evangelion Unit 01, or "Shogoki"
as it is known in the Japanese, it is
the testtype model of the evangelion.
Constructed in Japan, its pilot is
Shinji Ikari, and its core soul
is Yui Ikari. It first appears in
episode 1 Angel attack!
The testtype, eva unit 01 is the most interesting, and most unpredictable of
all the evangelion. This unit seems to be very different to its fellow evas, not
only in appearance, but in the attitude of the evangelion itself. It exact nature
is not really understood, mostly because it will go bezerk for no apparent reason,
acting out what seems to be the will of the eva, rather than the will of its pilot.
Most of the time this unit behaves well, syncronising very well with its pilot. However,
its pilot will sometimes have difficulty in a situation and the eva will seem take over
for its pilot, Shinji IKari, for whom it seems to have a definate preferance. None the less,
its difficult manner, never hinders a mission (quite the opposite).

Being the seccond fully functional eva, and with its nature, its operational life
is very lengthy. Exactly when its was construction was completed, isn't known. However it had
less problems than evangelion unit 00, being completed before unit 00, althought never activated
before Shinji attempted (with unusual success). The unit right from the start showed its unusual
nature, moving its arm to protect Shinji. It immediately synced well with Shinji (an attempt with
Rei only had limited success) and was sent into battle against Angel 3 Sachiel only a few moments
later. This was the first time it went bezerk, attacking the Angel, and succedding to defeat it.
It again went bezerk with Angel 12 Leliel after it should have been powered down. Once again with
Angel 14 Zeruel (the Angel from which it ate the s2 organ), least to say, that this unit was at the
forefront of battle most of the time. It was all these incidents that remimded Shinji of what he had
known since he was little, that his motehr was at teh core of unit 01, and would do everything in his
best interest. Later, its greatest importance is learned, that unit 01 is part Lilith (Angel 2)
and therefore it can be used as a replacement for Lilith, when third impact is initiated.
