COULD KAORU BE GAY?
This a another of those touchy questions that are difficult to answer, being politically
correct. As the issue of homosexuality can strike a few deep strings in many people, the
issue must be analysed on a strict context and fact basis. Following the rule of
ocham's razor, the most simple logical answer is most likely the correct one. This
issue is still none the less always in disagreement, which is not surprising as almost
no one is 100% certain of thier stance in regards to hetrosexuality or homosexuality.
It would be fair to clear up a few misconceptions about homosexuality first. Homosexuality,
or gay people have been ridiculed for a long time now, many consider it a trait of weakness,
a defect in people and a flaw in modern society, but this is undeserved. Gay people are
for the most part perfectly normal people, although there are a few differences that can put
some people on the defensive. Many do not understand how they can choose such a sexuality,
some explain it as "this is the way that they were born", but that is still meaningless to
many. To explain it more directly, picture the two sexes, from birth we are conditioned to
grow our "natural" feelings for the opposite sex, a good example is the cooties idea. However
some find they begin to develop feelings for the same sex, that surpasses the desire for the
opposite sex, this and only this is the difference.
The actions of Kaoru are clearly not of a normal guy, much too close to be simple admiration or
caring of a normal person. But is this the actions of a homosexual guy, or something else
entirely? Karou knows that he is not normal, nor does he pretend to be normal, in fact he is
proud of it and flaunts it. Kaoru knows that he is also more then human, being an excellent judge
of people, knowing before they even speak who they are, his meeting with Rei is testament to that
fact. Kaoru must be aware of what he is, an angel to test humanity, althought he seems to keep
that underwraps fairly well, for obvious reasons. There is one instance that he says that he
"loves" shinji. The truth of the matter is there are many forms of love, sexually being only one.
It seems out of Kaoru's nature to have sexual feelings of any sort, after all he is an angel, with
more important things then close relationships. It seems more likely with his good character
and judgement, that he simply knows the problems that Shinji has and cares for Shinji a great
deal, giving Shinji what he knew he desperatly needed, someone that genuinly cares about him
unconditionally. Is Kaoru gay....? you be the judge.
