ORGANISATIONS - JSSDF
After the defeat of Japan in world war 2, Japan was forced to surrender to the
United States of America under direction of the United Nations. Japan had signed
a treatey to have its goverment and armed forces dissolved. The country of Japan
would be defended by US troopes that remained on the islands for an indefinate
ammount of time, enough that was nessesary to set up a powerful and stable democratic
government to replace the imperial government lead by the Shogun or Emporer. The new
constitution of the Japanese goverment denouced the use of force, and was resolved that
never again shall it be visited with the horrors of war through the action of its
own government. As such it miliraty sterngth was severly restricted. Its was limited
in such a way that it now only exsisted for ts own self defence and ot police only Japanese
land and sea. Hence it was named the Japan Self Defence Force or JSDF. This was to consist
of three divisions, the Japan Air Self Defense Force (JASDF), Japan Maritime Selfm Defense
Force (JMSDF) and the Japan Ground Self Defense Force (JGSDF).
In the series of Neon genesis Evangelion, the Japanese Strategic Self Defense Force was tasked
with the same mission as it had before seccond impact, to defend Japan from an attack, whether
that be from human or angel origin. It seems that the JSSDF had been granted the ability to
expand its forces to better defend Japan from the angel threat, also moving into research in
mega weaponary for use against the angels. It even managed to build a prototype weapon that
was a particle projection cannon. Of giant size, it was capable of firing all of the electrical
power of Japan into one giant bolt, so powerful, even an AT-field couldnt withstand the burst
of power. It seems that the JSSDF also began the JET-Alone project, which was to build a mecha
that was capable of engaging the angels, meeting with very significant failiure in this regard.
In the end the JSSDF forces, along with United Nations forces, were used to storm the NERV facility
at Neo-Tokyo 3, in an attempt to retake it from the deviant NERV commander, ultimatly failing to
avert third impact.
