The Marduk institute is an organisation with the task of selecting children
as potential pilots for NERV under project E. Apparently all chilren were
acessed for their potential as pilots and then placed in a selection
creiteria, from which they could weed out those who could not perform the
role as an evangelion pilot. With 108 firms linked to the Marduk institute,
they exsist as a nation wide branch of small offices that worked in tandem
and constant communication to access the broadest range of children as
possible for the potential pilots.
This was the story told to the public and to the Japanese government by NERV
officials. Kaji Ryouji was given the task to investigate this for the
Japanese government, being an agent for NERV and for the Japanese government
aswell as being the boyfriend of Misato Katsuragi (NERV's tactical officer),
meant he had certain advantages and could obtain information regarding this.
Upon investigation, he discovered that all of the 108 offices were rotten old
deserted buidings out in the middle of no where that hadn't seen human life
since the seccond impact, it then became apparent that the Marduk institute
did not exist, at least not so formally.
None the less, children had been evaluated for roles as evangelion pilots and
placed into a class at the middle school of Neo-Tokyo 3. Their families had been
given incentives they couldn't refuse to move, however they were not told the
reason that was for their son or daughter was selected as a potential pilot and
placed into a class along with the current designated pilots of Rei Ayanami, and later
Shinji Ikari and Asuka Langely Sohryu. Apparently the Marduk institute doesnt exist and
its was Gendou Ikari who had been pulling the strings all along, selecting the pilots
and inventing up a conspiracy to explain their selection.
