NERV (german for nerve) is perhaps the most prominent organisation in all of Evangelion,
bold and forbidding. It built itself upon the glory of its former name Gehrin (german for
brain). NERV has many major sites throughout the world, the pinnacle of which is in Japan,
in the newly built capital Neo-Tokyo 3. Its offices also include Neo-Tokyo 2 in Matsushiro
(Japan), Boston in Massachusetts (USA), Carson City in Nevada (USA), Beijing in Beijing state
(China), Hamburg in Schlesig Holstein (Germany) and Berlin in Berlin state (Germany).
Its power and funding comes directly from the United Nations and SEELE, granting it unilateral
power over its local goverment, by UN backed force if necessary. It is the leaders in many
high end industries such as information technology, medical products and services, high end
offensive technology, advanced biologics, leading edge technological breakthroughs and also
including an armed force for the exclusive use of Gehrin, following extension to its UN granted
power.
Headed by its director Gendou Ikari, his advisor Dr. Kouzou Fuyutsuki, its technological
department and project E head Ritsuko Akagi and its tactical officer Misato Katsuragi,
NERV is responsible for a far greater task. The tast is defending the world against a threat
it is barely aware and doesnt not understand. The threat is the angels, for which NERV must
play the odds and defeat them in increacing difficulty, one at a time. It was for this precise
reason that that NERV continued project E (evangelion) that had begun in Gehrin's very early
history. NERV's progress on project E had met with significant problems in its early history,
the most devestating being the loss of its leading scientist Yui Ikari. None the less NERV
persisted, slowing meeting with success of harnessing an evangelion for use as a all terrain
multi purpose combat weapon, the only weapon capable of defeating the the angels. NERV was
anaware as to exactly when they would appear, which is why work never stopped on the Evangleion,
nor any other part of the Neo-Tokyo 3 instillation, designed and built as a city to combat the
angels, to which even its own local general public was not aware.
NERV did eventually meet combat with the angels, making hostile contact in 2015 with the first
offensive angel since the incident that caused seccond impact in antractica. This was yet
another event the world was ignortant of, being told it was a simple meteorite impact that caused
the obliteration of the entire continent, and half the deaths of everything in the world. This is
the other side of NERV, the secret side of the organisation misipulated by SEELE. The only
members of NERV aware of the true facts were Gensou Ikari, Dr. Kouzou Fuyutsuki and also
Ritsuko Akagi to a degree. There is something more to NERV, more to the evangelion and the
events surrounding it. The truth behind these events begs to be heard and is sought by many,
both inside and outside NERV.
